Ashland to offer chief’s job to Holderness

As reported by the Mail Tribune, Ashland Mayor John Morrison has tentatively offered the city’s chief of police job to Terry Holderness, a police captain in Fontana, Calif.

Holderness has more than 28 years’ experience in law enforcement and a strong background in community policing, Morrison said in a statement announcing his decision today.

The offer is conditional based on background checks and a site visit later this month.

Morrison, City Administrator Martha Bennett and Interim Police Chief Ron Goodpaster will travel to Fontana to meet with city officials and police for reference checks on Holderness.

Ashland’s police chief is appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Holderness’ appointment will come before the council at an upcoming meeting. If confirmed, Holderness would begin work in Ashland in mid-March.
