Seattle and Portland Among America’s Most Literate Cities

Drawing from a variety of available data resources, the America’s Most Literate Cities study ranks the largest cities (population 250,000 and above) in the United States. This study focuses on six key indicators of literacy: newspaper circulation, number of bookstores, library resources, periodical publishing resources, educational attainment, and Internet resources.

Dr. John W. Miller, president of Central Connecticut State University, is the author of this study. Research for this edition of AMLC was conducted in collaboration with the Center for Public Policy and Social Research at CCSU.

His Name Is Bruce…

Monday, December 15 showing of Bruce Campbell’s latest My Name is Bruce.

My Name is Bruce is the heroic struggle of a small mining town (Gold Lick, Oregon) to rid itself of a vengeful monster. Guan-di, the Chinese god of war and protector of the dead, has been unleashed by cemetery desecrating teenagers to protect the graves of Chinese miners lost in a deadly cave-in of yesteryear. The deadly demon’s mission is to eradicate all those who transgressed against the tomb (relatives included), which is virtually the entire population of Gold Lick. The inbred community has to find a solution so Jeff, the sole survivor of a deadly Guan-Di encounter, takes it upon himself to kidnap his idol, Bruce Campbell (Bruce Campbell), star of countless B-movie horror films, and recruit him to be their local savior.

After the movie, Bruce Campbell himself was available to answer questions of the crowd.

Winter Hits the Rogue Valley… sort of…

The Rogue Valley Oregon is weathering the first winter storms.  A few inches of snow fell on the valley floor but not enough to open Mt. Ashland.  As of December 16, Mt. Ashland reports a measly 20″ max.  Hardly enough to open the mountain.
